Position Summary

This position is split between centralized sterilizing and OR needs. The Surgical Technician will function under the general supervision and direction the Nurse Manager to facilitate the safe and effective surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Central Sterilization responsibilities include all aspects of sterile processing, decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution of sterile medical devices according to the current AORN, CDC, AMMI and OSHA guidelines. Knowledge of AMMI/IAHCSMM documentation for sterile processes. 

Responsibilities

• Obtaining supplies from other areas as needed
• Returning supplies and equipment to the appropriate location
• Assisting in keeping the Central Sterile area neat and orderly
• Effecting handling health or safety hazards for self and patients
• Reporting any unusual occurrences or incidents accurately to the Clinical Director
• Performing other duties as required

• Assisting with inventory, putting away supply deliveries, and stocking appropriate areas. 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience
  • Maintains current BLS certification and completion of required annual in-services
  • Ability to work in a surgery center environment with healthcare interactions that include patient contact, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease under a moderate level of noise
  • Must be able to understand and follow instruction with speed and accuracy
  • Must be able to organize and set priority for work to be done
  • Possesses manual dexterity, mobility, visual acuity, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, attendance, and good interpersonal skills
  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technician and sterile processing program.
  • Completes required orientation as directed by facility.
  • Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.
  • Follows facility protocol for unusual occurrences.
  • Respects cultural and religious practices of patients.
  • Upholds HIPPA regulations.
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shift.
  • Experience in ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge Alcon and Zeiss equipment preferred.
