Position Summary

The Physician Recruiter plays a critical role in developing and executing proactive strategies to meet the recruitment and talent needs for the business for our Ophthalmologist and Optometrists. This role will continue to find ways to innovate and streamline the hiring experience by leveraging technology, analyzing data and metrics, and staying abreast of industry trends.

 

This role will focus on managing a high volume of physician (MD) and optometrist (OD) recruitment across multiple states, ensuring the acquisition of top talent to support our growing network of practices. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and relationship-builder with proven experience in healthcare recruiting, particularly in ophthalmology or similar specialties.

 

Responsibilities

  • Builds internal provider database for passive and active candidates in all markets and specialties.
  • Ensures prospective provider candidates are well supported throughout the application and hiring process.
  • Publishes ads, creates lists of targeted candidates to send mailing or email campaigns to, as well as networking with program directors and other external sources used for provider recruitment.
  • Analyzes and evaluates metrics, sourcing and recruiting performance data on a monthly basis and communicates accordingly to internal business partners (role requirements aging, hiring rate, cost per hire, candidate quality, etc.).
  • Provides strategic recruiting expertise to the business and team by staying abreast of industry trends, best practices, legal and compliance changes, technology advancements and benchmark comparisons; functions as a subject matter expert on all recruitment activities.
  • Coordinates all phone interviews and in-person interviews with candidates and internal teams to include, but not limited to: travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, local transportation, meeting agendas, and local coordination for candidates’ spouse/children, as needed.
  • Tracks and manages status of all provider recruitment efforts and provides updates to leadership weekly.
  • In conjunction with legal and internal teams, manages the offer and contract negotiation process for all provider candidates.
  • Monitors the onboarding process for provider candidates and ensures all internal departments are aligned to prevent any delays or bottlenecks.
  • Understands provider contracts and provider compensation model.
  • Monitors activity within the applicant tracking system to ensure workflows are effective for the recruiting process (postings, dispositions, etc.).
  • Promotes both EyeSouth and affiliated brands to candidates and external service providers.
  • Maintains confidentiality for highly sensitive data.
  • Contributes to the team effort by completing additional tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in physician recruitment, talent acquisition, or healthcare staffing.
    • Familiarity with the healthcare industry, including knowledge of physician specialties, licensure, and credentialing processes.
    • Experience working with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruitment databases.
  • Key Competencies

    • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, and medical groups.
    • Strong understanding of recruitment strategies, including sourcing techniques, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
  • Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
    • Familiarity with job boards, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Doximity, etc.), and other recruitment tools.
  • Other Requirements

    • Willingness to travel as needed to attend conferences, job fairs, or meet with candidates.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience recruiting for multiple physician specialties, including subspecialties in ophthalmology or similar fields.
    • Knowledge of employment contracts, compensation structures, and relocation assistance for physicians.
    • Certification in recruitment (e.g., AIRS, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) is a plus but not required.
