The Clinical Manager provides oversight of the clinical activity within the practice and handles the training of current and new technicians on exam skills, diagnostic equipment, and new clinical procedures and policies. Efficiently directs the workflow of technicians to ensure smooth patient flow. The Clinical Manager provides leadership, has excellent problem-solving skills, and is knowledgeable of applicable laws, regulations, and standards by JCAHPO and other regulatory agencies.
This position would manage clinical staff in West Chester, Hamilton, Oxford, Eastgate, Anderson and the west side.
Clinical Training & Development
Plans, develops, and administers a comprehensive clinical education and development program for clinical staff.
Completes annual/bi-annual skills competencies for all active ophthalmic technicians, senior technicians, lead technicians, and any other clinical staff roles
Provide training on all new and current diagnostic equipment as needed
Supplies help in direct service tasks when short staffed.
Aids with patient flow, diagnostic testing, and technician exam components
Holds regular technician training seminars/meetings
Monitor clinical supplies keeping inventory controls, order clinical supplies as necessary within budget
Work with providers to develop a manual of protocols for each provider and keep manual updated as new providers join the organization or needs change.
Coordinates in-house continuing education programs.
Coordinates in-house clinical information sessions open to non-clinical personnel (i.e. how to triage patients).
Continuously reviews the effectiveness of the educational program and makes changes as appropriate.
Develops on-boarding process for training new technicians and other clinical staff, including training on EMR
Human Resources
Is dedicated Day 1 Contact for new technicians, responsible for completing I9s.
Evaluates clinical technician staff performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary procedures to the Practice Administrator.
Monitor and adjust staffing based on overtime weekly for all direct reports; approves all time off requests
Responsible for onboarding of new clinical hires, with emphasis on skills that may need refining
Conduct new hire 90 day and annual performance reviews for clinical staff
Responsible for the disciplinary actions and terminations of employees in conjunction with HR
Assists Office Managers with the interviewing and recommending of clinical candidates.
Develops and implements policies and procedures with the assistance of the Practice Administrator. Ensures policies and procedures are understood by clinical staff.
Compliance
Responsible for all aspects of OSHA, to include documentation and training
Responsible for MSDS maintenance
Creates and continually updates policy and procedures for technicians for inclusion in clinic manual, including EMR procedures and updates
Exercises discretion and independent judgment
Contributes to the team effort by completing other tasks as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in preferred, or the equivalent years related experience
5 years of management experience strongly preferred
5 years of Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to route inquiries to next level.
Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes.
Proven ability to lead and develop a team and drive performance improvement, demonstrated by progressive increases in management responsibility
Team player that develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal partners and can effectively engage and ability to build consensus among cross-functional teams.
