Position Summary

The Optical Technician must be able to work with our diverse base of customers (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, and adult) by delivering quality optical care and outstanding and friendly customer service establishing customer loyalty. The Optical Technician must be able to assist patients with eyeglasses ordering and fittings. The Optical Technician must also possess strong sales skills by demonstrating a high level of knowledge about our products and determining our patient's need for eyewear to recommend specific accessories and or enhancement for glasses.

Responsibilities

• Interpretation of prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists

• Communicate with physician regarding questions or concerns about prescriptions and other eye-related issues

• Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers, using measuring devices

• Assist in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions

• Recommend specific lenses, lens coating, other lens enhancements, and frames to suit patient needs

• Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications • Create work orders for lab technicians to ensure delivery of the proper lenses

• Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames in order to adjust eyeglasses to properly fit

• Repair broken/damaged frames

• Educate on proper wear and care of eyeglasses and contact lens

• Determine clients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers, and mark up progressives correctly

• Keeping track of orders, prescriptions, and inventory • Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise • Attend training workshops/meetings as scheduled

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Associates must possess either a High School Diploma or GED

• 2 years of eyecare experience required

•Ability to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, manual/finger dexterity, agility, and color vision and depth perception with visual acuity correctable to 20/25 while fitting eyeglasses and contacts

• Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.

• Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to route inquiries to next level

• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail

• Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes

• Team player that develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal partners and can effectively engage and to build consensus among cross-functional teams Preferred Skills:

• Apprentice Dispensing Optician License preferred

• ABO and/or NCLE preferred
