Position Summary

The Nurse Manager position provides administrative and nursing leadership and support to the surgical facility. The position is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the facility. The Nurse Manager ensures quality services are provided according to established policies and procedures and regulatory governing bodies by working in collaboration with the Medical Director and facility administrator. The Nurse Manager ensures best practices are achieved ensuring patient safety, quality care, and safe, efficient clinical operations by supporting effective patient care delivery systems. The position serves as a consultant to the management of human resource-related issues, acts as an employee champion and change agent, and assesses and anticipates HR and operation-related needs. The Nurse Manager maintains an effective level of business literacy about the facility's operational needs, its regulatory and compliance requirements, and its culture.

Responsibilities

General Operational Responsibilities 

 

  • Manages day-to-day clinical operations. 
  • Identifies and recommends procedural changes and solutions for inefficiencies. 
  • Acts as a liaison for the providers to relay any surgical, operational, or other issues the providers may have via the appropriate channel. 
  • Ensures key performance indicators are met across all departments. 
  • Meets with the Practice Administrator and Medical Director on a regular basis to provide recommendations, reporting, and insights 
  • Develop insights and recommendations based on supported data and analytics to drive optimal surgical performance 
  • Manages Risk Management activities including Peer Review processes, incident reporting and investigation. Performs root cause analysis on adverse events in conjunction with the leadership team as needed. 

 

Surgical Operations 

 

  • Manages nursing staff  
  • Ensures patient care is delivered utilizing evidence-based guidelines of care and appropriate resources, including personnel, services, supplies, and equipment.  
  • Identifies recurring patient care and surgery scheduling issues and seeks to find solutions 
  • Ensures proper and efficient surgical flow. Works with providers and nursing staff to develop and implement standard operating procedures.   
  • Oversees the use of software solutions and regularly identifies and recommends areas for improvement, including relationship management with specific vendor representatives 
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings 

Human Resources 

 

  • Partners with Regional Human Resources and Practice Administrator to manage staff training and development for all staff 
  • Ensures timesheet authorization, PTO approvals, and all required payroll reporting is completed in a timely fashion.  
  • Ensures the facility culture is reflective of the Facility’s mission, vision, and core values.  
  • Ensures the policies outlined in the EyeSouth Employee Handbook are met.  

 

Compliance 

 

  • Ensures operational and facility compliance measures are met with the assistance of the EyeSouth Chief Compliance Specialist, Practice Administrator, and  Medical Director. 
  • Ensures corporate and medical compliance programs are implemented and adhered to under the directions of the EyeSouth Compliance Specialist and Medical Director. 
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State, OHSA, HIPAA, accrediting body and all other appropriate regulations and guidelines applicable to the facility and ensures consistent audit readiness. 

 

Fiscal Management 

 

  • Oversees Clinical Inventory Management 
  • Ensures month-end reporting is provided timely and accurately 

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse License Required
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited college or university
  • BLS & ACLS Certification 
  • 3 years of critical care and operations management experience required 
  • Strong understanding of skilled nursing standards, federal and state regulations, and AAAHC or another ASC accreditation body’s patient safety and quality standards.  
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team and drive performance improvement, demonstrated by progressive increases in management responsibility 
  • Proven ability to thrive in a highly matrixed environment  
  • Rational and analytical approach with a friendly disposition; ability to remain calm in difficult situations 
  • Ability to work beyond the normal hours, as needed 
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills; written and documentation skills 
  • Professional & reliable demeanor with strong work ethic  
  • Excellent time management skills, organizing and prioritizing workload, in order to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to quickly learn new software, new systems, adapt to change and communicate effectively 
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external 
  • Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to route inquiries to next level, with a strong sense of urgency. 
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail 
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. 
  • Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes 
  • Team player who develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners and can effectively engage 
  • Ability to build consensus among cross-functional teams 
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
