Position Summary

The Oculoplastics Assistant position allows you to work daily while providing direct hands-on care to our patients and physicians. Our clinical staff report high levels of satisfaction with their roles at Central Florida Eye Specialists because they get to play a vital role in helping save peoples sight each and every day. Though the days may be long and busy, we find the results to be well worth the effort. 

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities: 

  • History taking 
  • Taking Patient Photos 
  • Preparing Injectables such as Botox, Kenalog, and Local Anesthesia. 
  • Vision and Visual field testing 
  • Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures 
  • Assisting in Cosmetic Procedures 
  • Scribing for patient exams alongside Physicians and Physician’s Associate 

Performed other duties as assigned: 

  • Aid in organizing and attending seasonal Cosmetic Events  
  • Self-Motivated and Efficient  
  • Ability to pay attention to detail 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Clear enthusiasm and interest is required 
  • Affable and outgoing personality with professional demeanor 
  • A true desire to learn 
  • The ability to communicate effectively to employees and patients 
  • Ability to make independent, accurate decisions regarding the best use of his/her time 
  • The ability to seek instruction in areas where he/she is not knowledgeable 
  • The ability to recognize inconsistencies in test results 
  • The ability to seek advice from others when accuracy is uncertain, and findings are inconsistent 
  • An attitude that reflects a desire to go beyond the minimum required duties 
  • Understanding that dependent upon need there may be instances where he/she is asked to travel to satellite offices 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Medical work experience NOT required, but it can increase your starting rate 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork 
  • Strong interpersonal skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor) 
  • Able to work long and irregular hours, and travel to Deland, Orange City, and Lake Mary based on clinic needs 
  • Ability to master Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic terminology 
  • Required to have reliable transportation between local clinics during the workday (mileage is reimbursed) 
  • High School Graduate 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a Scribing, Optometry/Ophthalmology and/or Oculoplastics 
  • Surgical Assisting or MA certification 
  • Bilingual in Spanish 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to view patient images and operate computer devices 
  • Ability to converse with patients - speaking and hearing 
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse 
  • Near constant standing and walking 
  • Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment 

Other Position Details: 

  • Schedule varies depending on assigned role and/or assigned physician 
  • Monday to Friday schedule 
  • Uniform/Scrub allowance of $200 
  • Some job titles that usually have relevant experience for this position: medical assistant, optometric technician, ophthalmic technician, optician, veterinary technician, ophthalmic scribe, ophthalmic photographer, phlebotomist, certified nurses assistant
