We are now hiring a Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to support the clinic’s goals of providing each patient with a positive experience while receiving quality comprehensive eye care from the providers.
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides perioperative nursing care in a fast-paced ophthalmology ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This position is cross-trained to function in Pre-Op, OR Circulating, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) roles. The RN collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
Pre-Operative Duties:
• Conduct patient assessments, verify surgical consents, allergies, and pre-operative documentation.
• Start IVs, administer pre-operative medications per standing orders and anesthesia direction, perform patient education on surgical procedures and discharge expectations.
• Coordinate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and technicians to ensure readiness for surgery.
Intra-Operative (Circulating Nurse) Duties:
• Function as circulating RN in the operating room for cataract, glaucoma, retina, and ophthalmic procedures.
• Maintain sterile field integrity and monitor aseptic technique.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure accurate documentation of intra-operative care, implants, billing and supplies.
• Handle specimens, counts, and surgical safety checklists per policy.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, scrub techs, and anesthesia staff to ensure a smooth surgical flow.
Post-Operative Duties:
• Receive patients into the PACU, monitor vital signs, airway, pain level, and surgical site condition.
• Administer medications per standing orders and anesthesia direction.
• Provide discharge teaching to patients and caregivers regarding post-operative medications, restrictions, and follow-up.
