Raleigh Ophthalmology is a busy well-established, progressive eleven physician group with subspecialty care in cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastics, pediatrics, and comprehensive eye care services. Responsible for efficient operation of the Clinic, and plays a key role in the day-to-day business affairs of Raleigh Ophthalmology to achieve the goals and objectives as stated in the corporate mission.
1. Manages daily clinical operations.
2. Responsible for participating in interviewing, hiring, orientation and of clinical staff. Assist in onboarding new employees, including preparation of training notebooks, policy acknowledgements, and resources for training.
3. Participate in disciplinary actions, evaluations, approving payroll, and approving PTO for clinical staff under direction of Clinical Manager.
4. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of all ophthalmic equipment is being scheduled and performed as assigned.
5. Organize/schedule work orders for equipment or equipment training.
6. Submits IT tickets for urgent computer issues. Provides clinical team IT support for urgent needs such as printer issues, error messages, etc.
7. Oversee Quality Assurance including:
a. Implement an internal chart review program as needed.
b. Provide continuing education resources to those that fall outside practice standards.
c. Implement, manage and delegate Quality Control including but not limited to:
• Medical waste management
• Testing of all autoclaves
• Medical refrigeration
8. Develop daily/weekly work schedules for the clinical staff under direction of Clinical Manager.
9. Provide or arrange for the new employee training and ongoing training of clinical staff under direction of Clinical Manager.
10. Maintain open communications with Administrator, Physicians, Clinical Manager clinical staff, and other managers and/or staff.
11. Delegate/maintain inventory and ordering of clinic medical supplies.
12. Attend weekly supervisor meeting with Clinical Manager.
13. Assist in leading clinical staff meetings as scheduled.
14. Coordinate/delegate maintenance of OSHA Compliance standards.
15. Assist Clinical Manager in performing annual performance reviews in coordination with Administrator and Physicians.
16. Approve and coordinate technician PTO in accordance with policy manual.
17. Continues to perform daily Ophthalmic Technician tasks including:
• Perform technical workups, patient interviews and special testing as needed.
Accurately performs:
a. Refractions
b. Lensometry
c. Keratometry
d. Tonometry
e. Visual Fields
f. OCT/FA/FAF/fundus photos
g. Amsler Testing
h. Muscle Testing
i. Pupil Exams
j. A-Scans (immersion/contact)
k. BAT
l. FA injections/imaging (as needed)
• Facilitate cross-training for technicians.
• Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, scheduling changes, etc., as needed.
• Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care.
• Maintains and cleans all equipment being used.
• Returns phone calls to patients as needed.
• May assist in minor surgery as needed.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.
• Scans appropriate documents/images into EMR charts, as necessary.
• Able to work late nights as needed to complete patient care, or as assigned.
21. Review technician productivity to assess for training needs, behavioral issues, or clinical flow issues.
22. Participate in creating Weekly Digest reminders of important clinical issues or upcoming events.
23. Communicates payroll reminder biweekly to clinical staff.
24. Participate in Process Improvement Projects for clinical issues.
25. Delegates tech buddy responsibilities, which may include checking VMs, ERXs, referrals, prior authorizations, scheduling outside diagnostic testing, etc. under the direction of the Clinical Manager.
26. Other duties as required by Practice Administrator or Physicians.
