Position Summary

We are actively recruiting for a Doctor Extender to join our growing team at South Georgia Eye Partners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including Visual acuity assessments, Tonometry, Optical coherence tomography (OCT), Visual field testing, Fundus and anterior segment imaging. 
  • Ensure accuracy, calibration, and proper operation of testing equipment. 
  • Conduct selects therapeutic procedures as permitted by scope and state regulations, and under doctor supervision. 
  • Administer medications or eye drops when delegated by the doctor. 
  • Collect and summarize patient history, chief complaints, and exam findings in the EMR. 
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation for doctor review to streamline exam flow. 
  • Support the ophthalmologist by anticipating exam needs and facilitating smooth transitions between diagnostic steps. 
  • Prepare patients for examination, including dilating patients, managing wait times, and explaining procedures. 
  • Coordinate patient movement through diagnostic stations to maximize clinic efficiency. 
  • Serve as a primary or secondary clinical assistant during busy clinic sessions. 
  • Assist in developing, communicating, and implementing treatment plans as directed by the doctor. 
  • Provide patient education on medications, follow‑up instructions, and postoperative care (when applicable). 
  • Maintain exam rooms, testing areas, and inventory of clinical supplies. 
  • Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards. 
  • Support overall clinical operations through teamwork and proactive problem solving. 
  • Comply with all clinical protocols, policies, bylaws, and standards established by the practice. 
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local healthcare laws and regulations, including Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and billing/coding requirements 
  • Support quality assurance, utilization review, and compliance initiatives. 
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care. 
  • Participate in professional development, continuing medical education (CME), and required training programs 
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow and care coordination 
  • Report incidents, complaints, malpractice claims, or licensure matters promptly in accordance with policy 
  • Use employer facilities, equipment, and resources solely for authorized clinical duties. 

 

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted license in the State(s) you will be practicing in. 
  • No history of license suspension, exclusion from federal healthcare programs, or professional discipline 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ophthalmology and/or optometry clinical practices preferred 
  • Strong clinical judgment, ethical standards, and patient-centered approach to care 
  • Ability to work full-time across multiple practice locations, as assigned 
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and pre-employment health requirements 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external. 
  • Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understand when to route inquiries to the next level. 
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail. 
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes. 
  • Team player that develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal partners and can effectively engage and ability to build consensus among cross-functional teams
