Position Summary

A Contact Lens Associate fits, dispenses, and manages contact lenses, educating patients on proper use, insertion, removal, and care, while also handling inventory, processing orders, maintaining records, and assisting with sales. Key duties include patient training, troubleshooting issues, inventory management, assisting with clinical testing as directed by Clinical Manger and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

 

  • Teaches patients to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses
  • Provides guidance on proper hygiene, cleaning solutions, and wearing schedules
  • Ensures first-time wearers feel comfortable and confident
  • Dispenses trial or purchased contact lenses under the supervision of a Licensed Dispensing Optician or Optometrist.
  • Explains usage instructions, expiration dates, and follow-up requirements
  • Assists optometrist or ophthalmologist by preparing exam rooms, gathering diagnostic tools, or helping manage patient flow
  • Performs basic pre-testing, depending on the practice (vision screening, auto-refraction, lensometry, etc.)
  • Manages inventory, stock lenses, and order replacements or special lenses.
  • Verifies prescriptions and check insurance coverage if applicable
  • Processes payments and maintain patient records
  • Answers questions about lens types (daily, monthly, toric, multifocal, specialty lenses)
  • Addresses comfort or fit issues and coordinate follow-up care
  • Provides excellent customer experience from start to finish
  • Participates in daily team huddles and meetings as required and scheduled.
  • All other duties as assigned such as special testing

Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience required
  • Minimum of 1 year medical office experience strongly preferred
  • Strong reliability with good attendance and punctuality.

KEY SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong teaching skills and patience to work with new learners
  • Attention to detail for accurate data entry and insurance verification; basic understanding of healthcare and vision insurance payers and programs
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, privacy laws)
  • Excellent customer service skills
